The wife and I are considering a long weekend beach getaway. Looking for something low key and a friend suggested Navarre. We've never been there and I'm looking for suggestions on where would be a good place to stay.

Any suggestions on where to stay, either in Navarre or somewhere similar, would be appreciated. We're not concerned with a lack of restaurants/entertainment compared to a Destin or Orange Beach, just looking for a place to bury our toes in the sand and get some R &R at the beach.

TIA

For a serious answer, grayton beach.

Navarre is pretty cool--we used to go there for the same reasons.

However, if you really want low-key go to Grayton Beach. NO HIGH RISE CONDOS. A beach that almost seems private. Small houses to rent. A couple of divy bars to hang out in. And close enough to Destin or Seaside (it's actually in between these) that you can shop/go to a restaurant if you want.

Edit: Wow, ksayetiger...we posted Grayton at the same time!

Jaws II was filmed in Navarre Beach btw, in case you're wondering.

Right off the bridge are a number of condo complexes - Navarre Beach regency, the pearl, beach colony resort, summerwind, etc. The beach gets a little crowded there by Navarre standards. I prefer renting a house on the west side of NB which is quieter and less developed.

The east side does have a few bars - Juana's pagoda bar is ok but gets a varied crowd and there is a bar next to the pier that frequently gets bands.

Just depends on your preference. To truly relax and get some quiet (sounds like your intention) look for a house on the west side of navarre close to gulf islands seashore.

I love Navarre, beautiful water and beach. I can't speak to the Grayton beach others have mentioned, but Navarre is super low key compared to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. Pretty much all the condos now can be found on VRBO.com. Juana's Pagoda is an awesome bar to go at night. Across the highway on the gulf is Lagerheads, that's where I like to go during the day while on the beach. Have fun.

I haven't been to Navarre in 30 years. When I did go all they had was a Holiday inn but it was an awesome place to stay. there wasn't much in Navarre back then I am sure that has changed.

I used to never EVER mention grayton beach.

About 10 years ago I realized the secret was out, so oh well.

Still love it.

STFU

OP: Summerwind and Regency are nice. Check out Juana's and Helenback for live music and good eats.

Grayton is laid back compared to a lot of 30A, but if you're going during peak season, it'll still be bustling. It's laid back in the sense of no high rises, but not in the sense of "holy frick where do I park why is there a 4 hour wait at Red Bar"

If you want truly laid back (and little in the way of entertainment/dining), you'll want to look down the coast to the area that shall not be named

Navarre is an awesome spot for exactly what you mentioned. There isn't a prettier beach with better views.

As someone mentioned, VRBO or AirBNB is probably your best spot to find something. You can do condo or beachouse, whichever you prefer.

Juana's usually has a decent crowd and some beach volleyball. You can also make the scenic drive down to Pensacola Beach where there are some decent restaurants like Dolphin Boy. Big thing with Pensacola Beach is don't EVER go on Memorial Day Weekend or you'll get a helluva lot more than you bargained for.

Perdido Key a little further West is also a pretty good option, especially if you have a boat and like barhopping down the innercoastal.

do not recommend. Sex on the beach can be quite painful. The sand tends to get everywhere

so true. We have been (and still are) long time 30A folks. But HOLY shite it is getting out of control. With all the development on the north side of 30A, the roads and the beaches are getting crowded as hell. Seaside is an absolute cluster frick now and Rosemary/sea rest is wayyyy too densely populated. We still have our little secret pockets that are still quiet but I'm sure those won't be quiet much can longer.

We have been talking a lot over the last few years about moving east to the area that shall not be named.
