Most of that was due to disease, not slaughter.

Notice how Europeans didn't wipe out the populations of Africa and Asia during colonization? The technological superiority was very similar in all three cases, but Americans on both continents had been so isolated that mere contact with Whites (and Africans) was enough to kill a majority of them.

97% of population wiped out in 300 years is still staggering though

The Americas were just to damn large. The Natives didn't have to really fight to preserve their land prior to the Europeans arrival. Europeans became superior militants and conquers due to the fact that they pretty much always had to fight for a space of their own.

I don't disagree, but the narrative that Europeans/White Americans simply killed them all by force is disingenuous.

That's what happens with diseases to which a people has no natural immunity. Can't blame the Europeans totally.

I understand completely that plague wiped out up to 90% of them before they ever stood a chance. I have a very good understanding of what happened. None of this is new to me.

My central point remains. History does not reward victims. How forward thinking are we on this matter of mass migration? We can't even decide among ourselves whether it's right or wrong, much less do anything about it.

Do we in the United States want to be victims here? Do we want to sit back and say, "Oh, well, we can't do anything about it. So why try?"

It defies all reason that the United States has before it thousands of years of history showing what happens in mass migratory movements worldwide... and we ignore it.

What makes us think that one day we will be any different than that Native American on the sidewalk, justified in his anger, but utterly powerless against those who have culturally transformed our nation?

Right now, their willpower to be here is stronger than our will to turn them away. We are LOSING.

Not that the U.S. behave kindly to the Indians, because it certainly didn't. It did a grand amount of harsh and inhumane things.

With that said, and in addition to the disease, let's not act like the Indians were peace-loving peoples. Many of them actually used alliances with the U.S. to fight or wipe out rival tribes.

In fact, isn't the origin of Thanksgiving come out from a tribe getting along with the Pilgrims after the two joined forces to destroy another tribe?

I would argue our legal system lacks immunity from border babies.

If you want to get technical the Native Americans are illegal, too. Let's not forget how few people were on this continent when that a-hole's ancestors crossed over the Bering Strait land bridge 50,000 years ago. What people were here were wiped out by the massive migration that took hold near the end of the last ice age.

No one has a permanent claim to the land. If anyone believes that they are stupid. However, those in control of that land have the right to make up rules and regulations that govern that land - until such a time those people lose that land.

So it is not the Native American now who has the right to say who is legal and illegal. He lost that right a long time ago.

Maybe if the Indians had a better immigration policy back then, they'd still rule this land.

We're learning from their mistakes.

Close the border, deport the illegals!
