quote:

A woman who witnessed a crash and stopped to help was held on suspicion of DUI after authorities suspected she had been drinking.

a driver lost control of his car on a curve on Harding Place near Westover Avenue in Belle Meade and hit a pole.

Authorities said a woman driving behind the car that flipped stopped to help.

When police officers showed up, they suspected that woman had been drinking. she failed a field sobriety test and was held on suspicion of DUI.

Lots of lessons to be had in this story.

Her drinking and driving could have easily led to her swerving all over the road, forcing the other driver off the road and into the pole

Yeah, the lesson is don't drink and drive...and then CERTAINLY don't stop and wait for cops to come if you have been drinking and driving.

What a dumbass...

She made the choice to drink and drive and put herself in the position of deciding whether to violate her conscience and leave the guy without checking on him or to risk the responding cops finding out she had been drinking.

Former coworker of mine stopped to help some guy with a flat in a holiday inn parking lot. Two guys came out of the bushes, put abgun to his head, and the three of them stole his truck.

This story is just adding to my position of why you don't stop or help anyone these days. Just call 911 or AAA and keep on moving.

Like she expected the police to just let her get back in her vehicle and drive off.

The lesson is just don't ever put yourself in a situation where you'll be around cops.

A. Don't drink and drive. Its just fricking stupid.

B. If she HAD to stop, just stop and make sure he's ok and call the cops then leave ASAP.

But they didn't see her driving.

Case dismissed!!!

Honestly, if they didn't see her driving or in her car with it running, a decent lawyer could probably get her a plea to a lesser charge. I know of a case in Oxford, MS with a buddy of mine that is identical (stopped for a different reason) and he got it down to reckless operation (or something like that) and he kept his license with no DUI on his record.

I wonder what her blood alcohol level was. Cops can hold you and charge you with dui even after one beer. It happens
