Probably because they never went to begin with

Probably because they already have

They are working on a concept, not planning an actual mission.

The moon missions illustrated the unreasonable expense and danger of manned missions to solar bodies. The push to develop AI missions that are far cheaper and include expendable components is sustaining space exploration. No government is willing to put forth the money needed for a manned mission to Mars, much less Venus.

Agreed but prepare to be downvoted away.

Venus was at one point a planet with moderate temperatures that could well have supported life back in it's heyday. Then something like 10000 volcanoes erupted at once causing an insane amount of CO2 to release.

Impossible, because there are no human beings there to release the carbon and cause the climate change.

If there were carbon credits on Venus back in the day, the place would be a paradise.

what guy hasn't had that fantasy about repopulating a planet inhabited by only women?

However...why don't we work towards actually going back to the moon and setting up a base of operations there, which should be a lot easier, and then work on going to Mars which should be achievable in our lifetimes?

We aren't wanted on the Moon, and that might apply to Mars as well...but maybe not.

I just want to sit in these meetings where some nerd baw comes in and says, "Let's put a Hindenburg on Venus, bitches."

Have they proven venus really exists? This could turn into a wild goose chase.

Looks like NASA is dusting off some old Zeppelin plans.

Luckily, the idea behind NASA's new mission is not to land people on the inhospitable surface, but to use the dense atmosphere as a base for exploration.

It's a false narrative. The OT better prepare, that Dr. baw in Florida probably has a bunker.

Agreed! Even if it never had a chance of actually being approved I think it's still an incredible intellectual exercise.

Their plan is to use the atmosphere as a launch point for other missions.

"Good news Joe, you've been selected for the manned mission to Venus."

"But the surface of Venus is far too hot and inhospitable for humans..."

"That's a problem we've accounted for, Joe. We're going to stick you guys in Venus' atmosphere in some floating balloon type things. From there, you will carry out the entirety of your mission. Completely safe and free from harm. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can go wrong or is unaccounted for in our planning."
