RANT [ON]
Is anyone else tired of hearing the talking head on TV or radio say the country of Myanmar, formerly known as Burma. It has been 26 years and they are still saying this every time a news story covers something in Myanmar.

You don't hear Thailand, formerly known as Siam. Or Zimbabwe, formerly known as Rhodesia. It's just weird and annoying to hear it all the time.

Yeah. First world problem for sure. It just strikes me as weird to hear it as often as I do about a minor country. Just thought I'd share.

When they start referring to Burma Shave as Myanmar Shave they've gone too far.

ETA: China-Burma-India is the most overlooked theater of World War 2.

Colonialism wasn't all bad. Zimbabwe, as run by Mugabe since late 80's is not a nice place.

Does the US recognize the (former) military junta/ex-military that still basically control the government? That could be why you hear it referred to as Burma.

The State Department calls it Burma officially I believe.

It's like how ISIS is referred to as the "self-proclaimed" Islamic State. It is a way to avoid giving it official recognition.

But if you listen to the Stevie Wonder song, peace has come to Zimbabwe.
