OP - sorry for your loss.

I had a good friend commit suicide about 10 years ago. We grew up together but had sort of lost touch in our 20s & 30s although we still chatted occasionally. We both got married, had kids, he moved to a different area. I guess you never really know what someone else is going through.

Sincere condolences, man....It's always sad when someone makes such a final decision concerning their life.

We all have our demons to deal with, at least to some extent..... When you can no longer fight them off yourself, for God's sake and your own, please seek help. It's out there. Life is a gift- and we all have a purpose to fulfill.

That hurts, but it was not your fault. Even had you been there for him, most likely you could not have prevented it.

Suicide is so alien in most of our thoughts, that we struggle to understand how that becomes a"solution" for someone. Forgive him for doing it, and forgive yourself for not being there. (Again, not your fault)

I hope that writing about it helped release some of the unwarranted guilt . It’s understandable to be sad., but don’t assign yourself blame. "What ifs" are pointless.

Young guy, about mid 30's or so put a bullet in himself just last week.

The wife and I were woken up by the sound of heavy equipment in the street near our house in the wee hours of the morning and saw 2 fire trucks and an EMS unit parked 3 doors down. They obviously came in with just lights and no sirens or we definitely would have heard them sooner.

The guy was living with a young lady, had no kids-----thank goodness-----and from my few interactions with him when I saw him walking his dog, he seemed like he was OK.

You just never know what's going on in people's heads.
