Muscle car guys: UPDATE pg2

I have an opportunity to buy a 1st generation camaro for what seems to be a decent price.
Interior is complete including console and headliner. Paint job is 15 years old but driver quality and looks good from 10 feet away. All the chrome and trim pieces are on the car and look solid. Body is straight with almost no filler.
Big problem is the engine. It is a crate engine that was run hot and blown. It is not repairable.
What is it gonna cost me to drop a new or rebuilt engine in it along with a transmission and rear end (current rear end is geared for racing).
I am not trying to make a 500 HP car. Just a nice V8 driver.
Also, anyone know of a reputable shop in Alabama who could do it?
Just looking for a ballpark in cost.

The rear quarters, floor pans, inner fenders, and rocker panels would have to all be pristine for me to even think about that vehicle and they are guaranteed to not be under 15 year-old paint in the South. I'd give $3k-ish for it. You'll be in for the drivetrain, possibly tires, brakes, and suspension and then body work and paint in a couple of years.
Find a $10k-$14k daily driver and write the check and be done with it.

You would need to be getting in to the car dirt cheap,especially if you won't be doing most of the work yourself.

They are all very solid. The car has been garaged since it was painted. Like I said, the overall car looks very good. It's just sad that he blew the engine and has let it sit in his garage for a couple of years.
He wants $7500 for it.

If that is the case you will have $12-15K in it when through. Your choice and BTW,I would order another crate engine to put in it, same series as what is in it right now.

How long has he wanted $7,500 for it?
Probably a while, I wouldn't give him $5k for it with those issues, but that's my personal opinion.
He's probably got a shoe box full of receipts and can't let go of the car at such a loss.
My thought: Always buy the car someone else spent too much money on and that you can drive home after the sale.

This and around the rear body window trim. I have had one 1 gen and two 2 gen Camaros and all had corrosion issues. Is it RS/SS optioned? Makes a big difference in price.

Unless you have all the money in the world this is the way to do it. First jeep I bought I was going to re-do it like I wanted. Bad idea.
Next one I buy will be complete and turn key. If I had spent the money on a complete jeep vs what I spent on what I wanted to re-do I'd still have a jeep.

I just got rid of a convertible firebird. If it's a plain Camaro, with a 15yr redo on paint and interior, it's probably a $15k car. If you have to put the engine in it and risk something not going right, I cant see how it would be worth $7500.

You guys are just confirming my instincts.
I bought a fully restored Jeep CJ and a fully restored MGB and drove each for several years and sold both for roughly the same I paid. It was well worth it both times.
Thats what I want to do with a first gen camaro but I can't find one that is not overpriced. Everybody wants 30-40k.
I just want a driver quality car to have fun with for a while and not lose money.
I can do a great deal of mechanical work myself but I do not have the shop to install an engine and tranny.
I was hoping I could buy this one for 6,500 and put 6 to 7,000 in it and have a decent driver. Figured it would be an easy sale below 15 grand in a few years.
I appreciate all the thoughts so far.

Buy it, you drop a crate engine in it for under $5000, turn around and sell it for 25

What area of Alabama? Also what kinda horsepower are you looking for will be a big factor in price
