Bullet points to avoid tldr:
-two small kids, 2yrs and another 7mos
-enjoy outdoor activities, parks, concerts, biking, running, etc
I searched, but other threads seemed geared towards couples with older kids. Please link if I missed one.
-pros and cons of Covington vs Madisonville vs Mandeville?
-can you recommend neighborhoods, gym with childcare, Montessori School, elementary schools?
-anything we need to avoid?
Thanks in advance!

covington and madisonville public schools are very subpar, despite what you might be told on here.

I'd suggest Slidell.

Most all the public elementary schools in Mandeville are excellent.

Sitting here and not sure where to begin as far as pros/cons. Depends if you like neighborhoods (old or new, elite upper-middle or somewhere in between), street/block or rural.

If the sun is up, you'll be sitting in traffic. And if you happen to go over an overpass on 12, you'll come to a complete stop. Oh, and traffic.

Stay away from Mandeville/Covington.

Sliraq is the place to raise a family these days.

Sorry, I forgot to include that information. We like older, more established, walkable neighborhoods, but not elite. Favorite neighborhood I've ever lived in was in the Saint Streets in Lafayette.

mandeville. that's even if you decide to go public school. there are plenty of affordable areas that are still within the mandeville school district.

do not move to the dirty dell unless you plan on living in a badass house with a pier and sending your kids to private school.
same goes for madisonville. you can get some serious land and build out there right now. it's growing quickly. also, opt for private schools if in this district.

My best advice is leave Louisiana.... Give your kids a chance at civilization.

Acquaint yourself with the flood maps. Make sure the property you buy is not in a flood zone. Then expect it to flood anyway.
