"At 5:30 the next morning, my phone rang. It was the same person who had first sent the tip in August. We have a name, he said: Vance John Rodriguez. He texted two new photographs that looked just like Mostly Harmless."

"I and others worked to confirm his identity, with the first press story about Rodriguez appearing in late December in Adventure Journal. The puzzle was formally solved today, when Othram confirmed that the DNA of the hiker matched that of Rodriguez’s mother."

Interesting story, everyone has their demons, and everyone tries to tame their demons differently. At least he didn't hurt anyone too bad, he abused some girlfriends, but ultimately he didn't do something like climbing a tower and shooting a bunch of people. dude went for a walk and died alone.

Mental health is a big issue in this country that doesn't get the attention it needs.

We've had 4 native guys disappear over the past several months. Three were found, one partially eaten by a bear.

Same story. They went off after getting in some kind of trouble and just disappeared.

I’ve followed this story for a few years, he was identified a few months ago. To no one’s surprise, his prior GF stated he was identified because he didn’t want to be. He was a hermit and self secluded.

He worked in BR for awhile and graduated from Comeaux High in Lafayette.

Why do we get a new thread on this guy every 3 months? He was a loner with no friends are family that even cared he was missing. Who cares? Might as well start posting every unidentified homeless man that dies because that’s essentially what this is equivalent to.

Dude wanted to escape and even in death they hound him down and release all his private info. What a joke of a world we find ourselves in.

Its been a huge issue for years. Then they decided to mask everyone, seclude them, convince them that leaving their homes would kill grandma, then ostracize the ones who questioned their methods. And they did the same to our children. There will be a huge mental toll to pay in the years to come.

I worked with him for a few months. Had long black hair at the time and liked to wear trench coats.

Unnecessarily long article fwiw. Parts relevant to BR:

quote:

VANCE JOHN RODRIGUEZ was born in February 1976 near Baton Rouge. He had a twin sister and an older brother. He told friends over the years that his father had deeply hurt him, but no one I spoke with seems to be clear exactly how. When he was about 15, according to friends, Rodriguez headed off into a field with a gun, intending to kill himself. He fired into his stomach. But then, as he lay bleeding to death, he decided to live. He raised his hand weakly and a passing truck saw him and pulled over. The surgeries that followed were the cause of the scar that had so intrigued the Facebook group. Later, he would tell friends that he wanted to be buried in that field.

At 17, with the consent of his parents, Rodriguez was emancipated by a Lafayette, Louisiana, court”

After graduating from high school, Rodriguez enrolled at the University of Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In the school’s computer lab, he came to know a man named Randall Godso. They became off-and-on roommates for the next five years”

According to Godso, Rodriguez didn’t graduate. But people with computer skills usually don’t have a hard time finding a job. Eventually, he started work at an ecommerce company based in Baton Rouge called Shoppers Choice, where he was recognized by many as the most talented engineer on the team

And educational/developmental, think of all those young kids that didn't get any time to socialize in a time period when it's critical to be interacting with their peers. And all of this remote learning bullshite, you know those kids weren't getting an education when the schools weren't allowing in person learning.

Think about what our crime rate will be like in about 10-15 years when all those young children didn't get the education and social knowledge they should have. It isn't going to be as bad in states that opened back up earlier, but those liberal states on the coasts. Good luck.

We will look back on this as a new dark ages, a great leap backward.

Sorry for the doom and gloom, but for the first time in my life I haven't had a positive outlook on the future.
