Any list that doesn't include a last name ending in "eaux" for Louisiana is not accurate.

Is it that distinctive if 4 other states have the same one?

There is a stat out there that says 90% of the people who have the last name Washington in the United States are black.

Need some context here. WTH is "distinctive" supposed to mean?

I'm from GA. If someone tells me their last name is "Stephens" the last thing that comes to mind is "huh, that's a distinctive name."

Makes sense. The name was originally Wessington and changed in the early 1700s. Not that large a family and George had no children.

A lot of freedmen took Washington as their last name to declare themselves as American. Same reason there are a lot of black Jeffersons.

I would think that distinctive would be a name that is associated with the state.
LeBlanc is the first name that comes to mind for Louisiana.
(I guess Boudreaux/Thibodaux, etc would also work).

In Mississippi, Ladner comes to mind. Cuevas & Necaise are also popular, but I'm more familiar with South MS so I can't really speak to the rest of the state.
