The Bayou City, Houston. Once again TX > LA.

quote:

Popular Mechanics has named I-45 in Houston the most dangerous stretch of roadway in the United States. The publication says it can’t pinpoint a specific feature of the road that makes it so bad, but the numbers don’t lie.

There are 56.5 fatal accidents for every 100 miles of roadway, and the magazine claims the scariest part is through the Bayou City, where officials blame people ignoring the laws: texting while driving, drunk driving, which is a well-documented problem in Harris County, and excessive speed.

quote:

Two other Texas highways made the list. No. 5 is US-83, where the roadway averages one death every other week in the Lone Star State.

quote:

No. 15 is US Route 175. The roadway averages about 0.7 deaths per mile, but almost half of those occur in the Dallas area.

285 north of Pecos makes I45 look like a subdivision road

I despise that stretch of interstate but I avoid I-45 through north Houston at all costs. Especially between the loops.

Child's play vs. I45 just due to shear volume.

Seems to me driving along any road in downtown Portland is the most dangerous.

Might be my least favorite stretch of road I've ever driven on.

The TX/LA border on I-10 is my 2nd least favorite.

I'd like to know how people get on I-45 going the wrong direction and have head on collisions. It seems to happen pretty frequently.

i-12 between br and hammond is like 100s of blind mental patients playing bumper cars at 70 mph.

Dude i used to commute from Washington Ave to Conroe every day. It saw some wild shite, and i was going against traffic. One day after my POS company truck's fuel gauge decided to die and i overestimated how much fuel i had left, i ran out of gas and i seriously thought i was going to die trying to make it to the shoulder. Totally my fault but it still sucked.

I've seen 3-4 head-on wreck fatalities going southbound on my commutes just in a few years. The traffic backs up 10-15 miles.

Bless your soul. I'm only going Heights - Woodlands. It being a reverse commute is the only reason I can stay sane.

I only lasted a year. Now i'm going from Heights to the Galleria. Much better, especially with Rona level traffic.
