So they're crop dusting Louisiana?

The mosquitos are finally fighting back against the big boys. In the past it was small stuff: a couple bites here or there. Then they brought out West Nile virus, and we started spraying them, killing them by the million. Now the arms race continues: the mosquitos are taking out our spraying planes --- how will this war end, and will we have to go nuclear?

If we are talking about thermonuclear annihilation of Slidell then I strongly support this.

Know someone whose dad is a pilot and does this. Not sure how many pilots they have that work this but chances are it's him.

This is terrible news. Prayers for the pilot and his family.

You assholes are making light of someone fighting the good fight. Hope he's alright and can get back up there to wipe those spawns of satan out.

I hope the guy is safe and uninjured, but mosquito control efforts are a waste of money at best, and more harm than good at worst.

John Lennon's "Instant Karma" keeps going through my head as I am reading this thread.

Slate ran a good article when Zika first became a concern. Best way to combat them would be to create genetically modified versions of the disease-vectoring species. The modifications would be advantageous so they would quickly take over...but they would also make the mosquitoes vulnerable to extermination via a specific human controlled trigger.

Smith says there was some type of engineer failure

The plane had been in the air for a while, used all of its mosquito spray before attempting to land

Plane was in the process of landing, flipped over and hit a power line

Of course we all hoped and prayed that the pilots were OK and the sad news of their demise is depressing.

Can you explain why?

1. Spraying only kills in the immediate area, and the mosquitoes are quickly replaced.
2. Also kills harmless and beneficial insects. Lightning bugs are a major casualty.

Anyone ever view the msds or now called the SDS on the chemicals used? This spray lands on your mailbox that you touch everyday unless it's under your porch of course.

Did we learn nothing from the tragic events that took place on Isla Nublar?

I think I do as well. Would the initials be WF?

A few years ago, the pilot who flew over BTR was a female. I hope there is no loss of life.
