I think this has been mentioned before, but evidently today is the day it's happening. I'm honestly surprised they still have a functioning paper.

They need to get rid of the Baton Rouge affiliate, it's useless IMO. Time to just let that ship sail.

Searched, SIAP.

quote:

The Times-Picayune is laying off 28 full-time journalists and nine part-timers as part of a major restructuring aimed at cutting costs.

In trimming its news operations for the second time in three years, the company’s announced Thursday quoted NOLA Media Group President Ricky Mathews as saying that another 21 percent of the company’s remaining full-time journalists were being cut.

That move leaves 118 full-time journalists on staff, Mathews said in the announcement.

The company said that the changes are “designed to focus on topics that are important to readers and have driven the substantial readership growth of NOLA.com.”

I hope they hire more editors and fact checkers. That site is horrendous.

Seriously, they just as well take their own content down and imbed TD.com on their landing page.

I honestly don't know one person who reads the local newspaper everyday.

But they sure as hell visit the local newspaper website.

That and they get their "news" from Facebook.

It's just a dying business model.

I still read the Pic on my iPad app, but only when there is some sort of breaking news that intrigues me.

It's a shell of its former self and will die sooner rather than later.

So true, but it happens across the board as far as online news is concerned. Printed news doesn't have that problem

The best part about that website is the comments section

Once the Advocate teaches all their old dogs the ins and outs of Twitter and other social media, they'll bury NOLA into the ground.

Hell yes. Especially when the 'writers' get into arguments with readers.

They will still have 118 full-time "journalist" putting that crap out? They could get away with less than 10.

Man, Fensterstock and Lyons Yellin gone. They also axed the entire prep sports group, the Tulane beat writer, and Jimmy Smith.
