I think OP is asking if middle schools have teams and play other middle school teams. I didn't think Ascension had a middle school league either.
Baton Rouge doesn't have one that I am aware of. My son's school wants to have a middle school team, but there are not enough other schools that will do it to have a league. He plays on a team from his school, but they play at Cypress Mounds since no school league exists.

Yes, they do. I have been involved with the middle school league over here in West Baton Rouge for almost 9 years now. Its started off with 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th. Now teams with not enough kids can combine school grades to make teams. We have some 5/6th and some 7/8th. The league consists of approx 50 teams. Games are played from early march and end at early may with 2 tournaments. Teams from Holy Family, Brusly, St. John, Ascension Catholic, Zachary, Plaquemine High, WF, EF, St. Aloy, MSA, CHSPC, Livonia, Valvertta, False River, and several more from the BR area.
Also this year marks the first year that we have a 3rd and a 4th grade team league. Only 5 teams, but more to come. The league is played during the week, so it doesn't effect the travel ballers that ply on weekends. Thus the same kids can play both, which makes for the league to be very competitive.

No there not in this. Ascension Catholic of D'ville, yes.

I was responding to the poster that said there are no middle school baseball teams in Ascension because of travel ball teams.
Try and keep up with the class.

Its too late this year, but if there interested, and they have multiple teams of multiple grades, I say go for it. Some teams are equivalent to USSSA AAA teams and others AA. It really depends on how big your school is as the competitive nature of your players. Its far from a Rec league if that's what your thinking. Funny thing is, my weekend tournament team consists of kids from multiple teams, so during the week, they play against each other representing their respective schools.

St. Charles parish middle schools have teams and they play each other. I think 4 teams total.

Is it safe for kids to play that much baseball? Serious question.

All the middle schools in St. Charles parish have baseball and softball teams.

They also host a few tournaments with schools from other parishes. They had one a few weeks ago at the westbank parks.

Our middle school season ends at the end of April. It's a quick 8 game with playoffs season. Travel ball summer season goes from March through July. Fall season is October-November.

I was asking about public schools...I should have been more clear.
So public middle school baseball is allowable in LA and some districts choose to have it and others don't.
What are some reasons why you wouldn't have it?
It would seem if it was done properly, it could be used as a farm system for HS and the HS HC could ensure the MS HC had the same baseball philosophies he did.

Our school has 3rd-4th and 5th-6th in football, basketball and baseball. We didn't have enough kids in 3rd and 4th to have teams this year though.

We have it up here at North Desoto.

such a league would be all about individual skill development... there's only so many ways to play baseball... this ain't football or hoops
