I have an uncle who came out of a surgery with complications of Dysphagia, which is an inability to swallow. The surgery was not related to his neck or esophagus but something happened that caused this issue. He didn't previously have this problem. Now he's having to be fed by a tube.

I'd read, online of course, that there have been successes using medical marijuana to overcome this condition. So maybe the OT knows something about it and also how it's administered to someone who can't swallow. Second, he's in Louisiana, so I'm not aware whether LA has or has not a medical marijuana law.

Any advice or medical experience here?

No medical marijuana laws in LA. Never heard of that but can't hurt, right? Get the old man some to burn

I expected the smart arse answers but this is a serious request for information. The man is suffering and I'm just asking if there's advice. We didn't have medical marijuana laws here in Texas, but one of our ex-neighbors has a small child that was suffering debilitating seizures constantly. They moved to Colorado and put her on a program and have reduced the seizures to only once or twice a day, sometimes none.

At least that's what an article someone posted on Facebook says

The strain is called Charlotte's Web, and it's a high CBD strain. It's usually ingested via cannabis oil.

I'm all for medical marijuana. But, I would suggest that before y'all consider finding a way to get legal pot, you bring him to an ENT and have them evaluate him medically and see if they can fix it either surgically or refer to a speech therapist.

Personally, I think the issue is he went in and had surgery at the fricking VA.

I'm confused as to why he would need marijuana in this case. Would he need it to eat (but he can't swallow) because of lack of appetite??

Or, does he need it for the pain?

Op is asking if MJ will help dysphagia. I've never heard of that
Having the munchies but not being able to satisfy that urge would be hell on earth. And tube feeds ain't going to cut it
I'm wondering what caused the dysphagia. Stroke? Mechanical damage from intubation (rare)
I'm guessing the pt has already been seen by all sub specialists
Is he awake and alert and walking around?

Louisiana has medical marijuana laws, but right now there is no way to dispense it. That is a couple of years off. You can't transport it across state lines to here, so I think your uncle is out of luck with that. I'm not kidding.

What type or surgery did he have? Gastric surgery? Hiatal hernia repair?

MM is suppose to cure everything. I would go see a specialist first. If MM was a wonder cure like the interwebz claim, it would already be legal. And I am for legalizing it, but it is not some great magic elixir. Go see someone who has spent their life studying systems of the human body.

Reading the Internet will tell you MM is a cure for everything

While I can't find any studies directly using MMJ for Dysphagia, several components(cannabinoids) of marijuana work as antispasmotics, THC,CBD,CBN. You can order CBD products that can be shipped to any state. Only THC products are restricted. Try the cbdboutique.com.

From my understanding, he fell and had to have hip surgery, so he is not walking around much. He was put under and when he came out of it he could not swallow. He can talk, he can think, but he can't swallow. That has got to be incredibly frustrating for him.

Let's say there was someone dumb enough and willing to drive to CO to get something for him and drive back (very much within the speed limit, I would think). What the hell would you get him? How could you even administer that to someone who can't swallow it? He is only getting his feeding through a tube and/or receiving liquids intravenously. I guess he'd have to inhale would be the only thing I can think of.
