In the end, the Senate panel approved, without objection, Senate Bill 271, which broadens the number of diseases marijuana can be used to treat. The measure now goes to the full Senate.

Its sponsor, Sen. Fred Mills, R-Parks, said he expects another donnybrook. “Every time we talk about marijuana, this is what happens,” Mills said with a shrug.

To be clear, Mills said, reefers are not smoked when marijuana is used medically. It’s an extract from the plants that can be used pharmaceutically, must be recommended by a physician and must be acquired through one of 10 stores to be licensed in the state.

Steps in the right direction

He's referring to the bill currently heading to the Senate for discussion. It does not include either smokable or edible forms of marijuana. It only includes oils extracted from plants, and does not provide the high that normal marijuana does. I'm less concerned with that aspect of the bill and more concerned that only 1 grow site will be licensed, as well as only 10 pharmacies statewide. That screams of corruption and bribes.

Oh. You mean like exactly what is already legal in Louisiana?

This is definitely what we should be concerned with. Such a stupid thing to put in the bill

Unless they are only going to be extracting CBD from the plants, oils extracted from the plants can be far more potent if the THC properties are still present. ie. Hash, shadder, wax etc.

Yea - Mills pretty much said the Sheriff's Association stipulated that as a condition to them not opposing the 2015 bill.

I always find it funny/terrible that those enforcing the laws need to give consent for the ones that have any hope of passage.

God only knows what they were up to in there, and furthermore Susan I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to learn that all four of them habitually smoked marijuana cigarettes..... reefers

Yup - the Sheriff's Association holds massive stroke (aka issues bribes) in Louisiana. Rep Joe Lopinto was paid off handsomely for a 2014 bill that called for millions more in annual revenue for the sheriff's across LA.

The most powerful men in America are sheriffs.

They can pretty much do whatever they want.

Hey, here's a fact for you.

Lobbyists write the bills. When they write the bills, they write their friends and business interests into them as well.

So yeah, it's absolutely corrupt but there's no bribe. When a legislator gets the language, they can see exactly who they should invest in if said language passes.

This is how your government works. But nevermind that, go scapegoat the ugly man or whatever you Louisiana folks like to do.
