I watched the original pilot of All in the Family last night and Meathead was lecturing Archie about his white privilege. The exchange sounded just like a typical Poli board discussion. I had no idea the term has been around for 35+years. Archie would be a great uncle to have around for family occasions.

(Sally Struthers was a hot little number in a really short skirt, too.)

Yes. Yes he was. His purpose was to antagonize Archie to no end and he did.

In real life, Rob Reiner is pretty involved in SJW stuff as well.

It was a pretty overused character type in the 80s and 90s.

I know he's a raging liberal, but I was surprised he used the term white privilege.

I must've missed that episode.

My NOLA grandparents were like a carbon copy of Archie and Edith - including the accents. I miss them. "Those were the days..."

Well "All in the family" was just another, in a long line of, 70's sitcoms produced by none other than Norman Lear. Others include MASH, Sanford and San, Good Times, The Jeffersons etc.

Lear was and is a raging liberal and all his shows were geared around what a bunch of racist, homophobic, uneducated morons we Americans are.

He personifies the term "Douche"

Boy the way Glen Miller played
Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys like us we had it made,
Those were the days.

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn't need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.
Those were the days.
