This pic is going around FB as the shield of the first French operative to enter the Bataclan theatre. I'm skeptical, but willing to be corrected if I'm wrong.

1 It looks way too heavy to be a ballistic shield. The ones I'm familiary with are made of composite material. This looks like a metal door of some kind.

2 I've read or heard nothing of a shootout, but that the killers blew themselves up.

3 The video I've seen was of officers entering through the upper floors via ladders, and they weren't carrying shields of any kind, although that may not be definitive, there could have been other entry points.

It appears to me to be a shield that is being held upright by some sort of stand. The metal on the sides from the floor to about half way up look only like a stand to me, and not part of the actual shield.

looks much larger than any ballistic shield I've ever seen, but I've only seen maybe 2 in person.

It looks like some sort of shield that is held up by legs or something

Probably a wheeled barricade rather than a handheld shield.

That's not metal, but rather a composite material. See how the areas around the holes are frayed? That doesn't happen when you shoot metal.

It's a mobile ballistic barricade, very common.

It could be that it has wheels and is pushed into place after the door is breached and provides immediately protection to those entering into the building. I can seen how you would want something like that when you don't know what's behind the door you are about to blow.

See the bolt heads in the middle? That means the supports and handles are on the opposite side. I guess they could be exit holes if they were shot from behind.

If these are ballistic shields, the only way for the energy to dissipate (if it doesn't penetrate the shield) is to go back out in the same direction it entered. So basically it would form an "entrance/exit" hole.
