May you never experience life with an old, blind dog

He cries constantly because he can't see and is frustrated.
We are frazzled.
Good memories, though... Here he was about five years ago enjoying his birthday cake:

I have a dog with one eye myself my question is why would you not put a "old" dog down if he is blind? What kind of quality of life do you think he/she is having?

My dog is going to dog eye specialist tomorrow. Hopefully he is not down to one eye.

That's a valid question and one we've obviously grappled with.
He still loves his food and loves to be petted and walked, so he still enjoys life when he's the center of attention. Problem is that he can't be our entire universe.

My dog has had one eye for 3 years doctor said it would take a little while for his brain to adjust but he seems to be fine now

Rex.. it's time to put him down. It's going to get worse and he's going to begin the suffering part soon.
Fix him up one hell of a last meal and let him gorge himself. We made our last pup a cheeseburger and some fries.

Hope your kids don't have the same mentality as you do. If things you love become a burden just get rid of it.

Did he go blind suddenly? I dog-sit my sister-in-laws dog a few times a week when she has to work late, he is 12 and over the past few years has gone completely blind. He bumped into things a few times when he first started coming over but is fine now, he even runs around the yard with my BMC, otherwise completely healthy dog with zero suffering and an overall great dog still. It may take a little while for yours to get used to it, but only you know best man. If he's suffering it may be time to put him down

I had a shih-tze that was 16 and he was blind and could hardly walk. I was cleaning the house one november day about five years ago and I opened the doors to air out the house. He wondered into the back yard and fell in the pool. It was awful. It was the weekend of the LSU/Bama game. I buried him in the back yard and then mounded the duet up like a football stadium. Planted red and white flowers on one side and purple and gold flowers on the other. It was a terrible day.

Maui is 17. He doesn't have time to adjust to his blindness, I'm sure.

It's more likely he's in pain. I doubt he'd cry because he was blind.

But that's not the same. Maui doesn't have cancer and is not in any pain.. he's just a ROYAL PAIN IN THE arse.

Rex have you looked into a halo? Maybe if he wasn't afraid of running face first into things he'd be less whiny.
