Can anyone tell me what the math department is like at LSU? Are the classes small? How about the professors? Do they speak english?

I'm also curious about the financial aid situation. I read a couple of years ago that the state is broke and financial aid at the school has been cut because of that. Is that still the situation?

Yeah - I doubt LSU is even open this fall. Try next year maybe.

My first LSU math class was in the 900 person Cox auditorium. It was awesome.

Math department is terrible outside of Dottie Vaughan.

And that's a fact jack.

Antiquated system that tries to force the material on students with required math lab hours.

As long as you understand what a "duhvivative" is, you'll be fine.

I doubt this guy is asking about the remedial classes where you have to go to math lab.

The same as every other state school. You'll get a great education if you put the work in. Teachers are hit/miss.

depends on what class. Some of the stupid freshmen classes have hundreds. my biggest class was 30ish (Calc 1) my smallest was 10ish (diffeq)

ETA: All of my professors were pretty good teachers and knew the english language. the worst english speaker was probably my diffeq teacher who was Russian. forgot his name. Other than him I had a German, S. American, and White guy

Seriously? Cal 1 had only 30??? Thats an very very low amount for a public university IMO.

may have been 35? but it was less than 40 forsure. LSU offered like 20 different Calc 1s that semester. I took it with Frank Neubrander, who is the fricking man.

If you pay attention in high school, you don't have to take all those huge classes.
