I assume the camera is on a moving arm that can be moved away from the rover in order to capture pictures.

I'm assuming it's a collection of pictures and it appears to be floating. My only guess. But you can navigate around vertically and see no arm attached to it.

I just noticed that clicking on one of the arrows at the bottom of the panorama allows you to change the image set and there are awesome views of the Milky Way. Talk about zero light pollution.
