Maintenance costs for housing/cars are out of control. Most of us are on the clock.

Kind of a spin off from the new car thread and people dreading buying a new car, but overall this is a more generic concern

I am finding myself doing an inventory of all the major costs that are coming down the pike, just the standard things every homeowner takes into account.

1. A new roof
2. Eventual new AC unit
3. New appliances or fixed appliances
4. The possibility of foundation/floor work
5. Plumbing maintenance
6. The possibility of a new transmission on my cars
7. The possibility of a new engines on my cars
8. New tires
9. New breaks
10. Overall vehicle maintenance
11. New or fixed water well
12. The need for an eventual new vehicle
13. Medical costs

I could go on and on.

A lot of the above I’ve learned to fix myself (like appliances, vehicle maintenance/brakes, plumbing, the unusual guy stuff) but it seems like the clock is ticking for a lot of people who are just making ends meet with the huge potential costs looming over their heads.

What are the majority of the people going to do when all these costs come crashing down on them in the current climate?

Feels like I have heard people raise these concerns for decades.

People always find a way it seems.

I buy stuff I can afford with those contingencies calculated. Never stress about it. Live within your means!!!

Typical events, yes. Typical costs, no.

9. New breaks

This may be part of your issue. Quit breaking things and repair costs will go down.

Yet go to any decent restaurant in whatever town tonight and I bet there’s an hour wait. People don’t care.

When’s the last time you priced these out, because if you did, you’d probably not be living too much

Like anyone else, you find a way. Prioritize what is must do now, what can wait, cut current spending for find a way to make more to cover the costs.

Yes, inflation is bad right now and would suck to have several large must hit at once but that’s why people should have a savings account with enough money to cover when life events happen.

Be better with your money before these events happen

It sounds like you’ve been putting off literally everything. If so, you’ve been on the clock for a while.

Get ready for tons of posts about how poor you are. These people don’t realize that they will be squeezed of their possessions no matter your economics. The PLAN and AGENDA is to rid you of possessions and freedoms, except for the very few. It’s a work in progress. They’re coming after you. Everybody on this board will be “pours” when it’s all said and done unless….

I’d get a new car before I replaced a motor or a transmission.

This isn’t very common.
