This is probably at the root of the kid’s issues. He “knew” his dad wanted him to carry on his NBA legacy but was never good enough to play at a serious level or maybe the kid just wasn’t interested in the game. That’s a lot of pressure, even if Dad told him it was okay and to do what makes you happy.
I worked with a guy who was 7’ 1” tall but was not very coordinated. He got a basketball scholarship to a smaller college and got an Accounting degree because he knew basketball wasn’t his thing.
