Quick question...do you keep every piece of paper you see? I'm cleaning up some legal files and I swear this attorney has kept every piece of paper she has seen in the past 20 years.

Most of my stuff is saved electronically now. I believe that we keep paper files in storage for up to 10 years. We no longer keep wills, I give the originals to the clients. But we have some very old originals. We have been trying to get rid of them by tracking people down.

We keep hard copies of fully-executeds indefinitely (especially our international stuff), but our lawyers are steadfastly refusing to give up paper and go electronic. I think I file things in 3 places electronically and 2 in paper. It's a nightmare sometimes.
