And let me tell you.. I've gone cheap. I mean, I have stayed in cheapo across-the-street places in Destin with 1-2 girlfriends. I think we spent $40/person for Friday-Sunday.
Like I said, though, I especially don't understand it for things like bachelor parties where all involved are grown adults. I can understand it a little for college kids who make very little money/don't work at all.

Boo just got back from a bachelor party and said they had like 15 guys in a 3 bedroom house.

I've been doing this blind booking like crazy lately, and I just love it.
Found a 4.5-star hotel for $98 for Red Dress Run, booked it, and it ended up being Le Pavillon -- which is my favorite hotel in New Orleans. Split with one friend (we each get beds lol).. $50/person for such a nice place is a steal.

I may be doing this soon. I am going to try not to stay up most of the night before and last a bit longer this time.

I was trying to think of who stayed in Hyatt as well last year, and that's right.. you did! Well the rooms everywhere are cheap-ish right now. Or they were yesterday.
Supposedly I snagged the last available Le Pavillon room, but I'm sure there are still plenty elsewhere since it is so early.
