The frick he did. Henry kept most of the Catholic faith traditions except for the divorce thing. At that time there were as many as 90 days a year when you didnt eat meat and EVERY friday was no meat.
That was for wealthy. The average meat consumption for a poor englishman at the time of HVIII was 9 lbs a year. Meat was scarce and expensive. Fish, etc were much more plentiful. Its also why the brits still eat every goddam part of a cow you wouldnt touch.

The protestant "King James" version was a political settlement forced on the Puritans and the English Catholic (anglican) church by King James VI, who was tired of their political bullshite fighting over what was "the word of God" and what wasn't.
