I had my doubts about him, but I'm very impressed so far. Glad he's on our team. Hope he keeps up the good work!

This is great news! Academic fundraising like this deserves to be lauded. A step forward in closing the massive resource gap between academics and athletics.
Yet, they couldn't help but tie alot of the money to LSU athletics.

I'm hearing more announcements are in the pipeline too regarding changes being made to LSU's priorities. More focus on research, tech, coast, and engineering
Good. That's exactly where we should be focused.

Y’all ‘member the meltdown by this board when Tate was hired? I do. Looking like lots of crow to eat.

Some more details:
quote:
$40 million to develop an end-to-end healthcare experience within the LSU Student Health Center and provide in-kind care to uninsured and underinsured LSU students.
$20 million to the LSU School of Medicine New Orleans Baton Rouge Branch Campus to strengthen physician residency and fellowship programs, expand high school students’ interests in healthcare and provide broad training in clinical and non-clinical health-related professions.
$15 million to construct the LSU Interdisciplinary Science Building, LSU’s top capital priority. Our Lady of the Lake’s leadership commitment will be recognized through the proposed naming of the Our Lady of the Lake Interdisciplinary Science Building. This crucial space will be home to the LSU College of Science, the springboard for more than half of Louisiana’s physicians, and will instantly close more than half of the college’s current gap in educational and lab space needs.
$10 million to establish a healthcare-focused research fund directed by the LSU president to advance university-wide research that could span all LSU campuses. Specific innovation to address health disparities is a top priority.
$85 million to deploy integrated clinical technology, facility improvements and educational programming to advance student-athlete health and wellness – essential to sustaining the vitality of LSU’s thriving athletics programs.

Yes and before being called to the carpet most of us have admitted he’s been really good for the university.
So good in fact I wouldn’t be shocked if a richer, more prestigious university poaches him in a few years.

So this is...
Yet, according to the quoted breakdown of how the money will be spent, it is a perfect split. $85 million split amongst academic projects. And $85 million that will be under the athletics umbrella.
A "massive step" would have been putting it all towards academics. It isn't like the Athletic Department is struggling to make ends meet.
And, nearly half of the academic grant may be used to....

Those fricking doctors need to be locked into a contract with OLOL to stay here.

We can always use more cancer research considering most of us live under the disgusting clouds that float over from Exxon.

from the article:
quote:
The combined commitments to LSU include $160 million in support of academics and $85 million in support of athletics.
Also this:
quote:
A main goal of the commitment will be to attain National Cancer Institute designation to the university, of which only 71 exist nationwide.
Way more detail on the LSU press release than in The Advocate or WBRZ. And probably more correct info as well.
