James “Jimmy” Chilimigras is a typical first-year law student in many ways. He gets called on by professors in class, he spends hours in the library, and lugs around textbooks about Louisiana civil code.
He’s also 15 years old.
Chilimigras, a native of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, began attending Loyola Law School this fall after completing a bachelor's and master's degree and passing the Certified Public Accountant exam. He's attending Loyola on a merit-based full scholarship.
quote:
Chilimigras grew up in Bay St. Louis as the oldest of six children. Excelling academically from a young age — sometimes progressing through subjects after only reading the textbook once — he was home-schooled by his father, who helped him craft a curriculum to finish high school by age 12.
From there he attended Western Governors University, a self-paced online university, where he got a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in accounting.
quote:
With his passage of the CPA earlier this year, many believe him to be the youngest in the world to master the notoriously difficult exam.
quote:
He earned a 174 out of 180 on the LSAT, an excellent score considered in the 99th percentile.

I think I remember a children's song about him.

Good for him. His dad realized he could do a better job than our public institutions.
ETA: my guess on Loyola was to keep him close to home?

I swear I will never understand why brilliant kids rush through these dogshit schools.
Slow your roll and graduate from an Ivy at 20 and then go to a T14 for law school. Will be a lot better ROI (and experience) than an online degree from Bumblefrick U and a Loyola law degree just to say you were bared by 18.

Dude will be a perpetual student. Likely to struggle with a real job and parents can't bankroll his dreams

Dude passed cpa exam at age 14/15.
The piece of paper he has doesn’t matter.
This kid is on another level.

I’m afraid you’re probably right. He should probably pursue the sciences which would certainly be more intellectually challenging over the long haul.

The 8 year old I went to high school with was a med school professor by like 30 or 31. I think that's doing fairly well.

One of these prodigies once explained how they were 10 years ahead of their peers when they graduated med school.
All it meant was that they had 10 years experience at 30 instead of 40. But they missed 10 years of their life that others had.
To each their own

Handsome little kid as well. He's going to slay one day.
I feel like if this were me looking back, I would've used all the brain power to think of felony financial crimes

If I was a kid genius I’d definitely do brain surgeon or something. He would be some with med school by 19 and starting residency.

You seem unfamiliar with compounding returns

I don’t get the rush to get through school regardless of how smart you are. He has the rest of his life to study and work. You only get one shot at being a teenager.

What a waste.
Why do smart people go to law school?
