The Supreme Court just granted a writ application in:

2023-C-01108 MAYOR-PRESIDENT SHARON WESTON BROOME, LEWIS O. UNGLESBY, LAMONT COLE, AND M. E. CORMIER VS. CHRIS RIALS AND NORMAN BROWNING, ORGANIZERS OF THE PETITION TO INCORPORATE ST. GEORGE (Parish of East Baton Rouge)

2023-C-01118 MAYOR-PRESIDENT SHARON WESTON BROOME, LEWIS O. UNGLESBY, LAMONT COLE, AND M. E. CORMIER VS. CHRIS RIALS AND NORMAN BROWNING, ORGANIZERS OF THE PETITION TO INCORPORATE ST. GEORGE (Parish of East Baton Rouge)

So it looks like it isn't dead yet.

I thought they already made their arguments back in August. Was that just presenting their case to see if it would be accepted by the state Supreme Court?

Good luck but I won’t be here to see it.

If Central did it, why all if the fuss re St George? I get loss of tax base, but if one can do it, why not another? Did Central face a fight?

My guess is August was when the applications were submitted.

This is the notice of the grant of the writs for consideration snd the briefing notices.

Oral argument likely in February based on the briefing schedule.

The First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on July 14, 2023, so the August deadline was for the filing of applications to the Supreme Court. Those applications were granted today, and a briefing schedule was released. Applicants (pro-St. George) have to file their briefs by December 11, 2023, and the Respondents (anti-St. George) have to file by January 2, 2024.

I don't really have one. This comes down to the intricacies of incorporation and signatures, etc. I've never studied that and have no knowledge of the detailed requirements. St. George either happens or it doesn't. I don't live there.

You answered your first question, the city is paying a lot of their bills with SG tax dollars.

You’d think if Central could we could.

They did go to court to block Central, but Central won.

Because it's 2023 and they can't leave because the poor black North Batin Rudge folk will be left behind.

It apparently wasn't racist in the late 90s with Central tho

But now it is.

If everyone in St. George just tightened their belt and pulled a few extra shifts at the plant they could afford to move to southdowns (Gods country) and we wouldn’t be having all this hoopla

If everything was done legally, do you think st George should be allowed to incorporate?

Baton Rouge sucks now, St George will make it suck even more and it's not like St George will be insulated from it anyway

I don't see it improving school situation in that area either as most that live in that area will still attend the private schools

I know people that moved to Baton Rouge to still be able to send their kids to magnet schools including BR High

If everything is done in accordance with the law on the issue it isn't a matter of opinion. Of course they can.

I thought past rulings weighed heavily in new cases? So why wouldn't this be an easy decision by the court?

I think it was always known that a corrupt court would get it locally and it would have to go all the way to the Supreme Court. Baton Rouge is a shithole.
