Louisiana Obscurities - A Thread Series

This is the first in a hopefully long series of threads. Here's how it works: I will name a place in Louisiana that I judge to be "obscure" or otherwise not really in the minds of the average La citizen, and those of you with intimate knowledge/experience of/with it post thoughts/memories which convince us it's just as mainstream, as, say, Baton Rouge. First entry:

Personally, I have been fascinated with the idea of Zylks since I was a little kid long, long ago. Both the location and the spelling just ooze obscurity. I still think I have never met somebody from Zylks - or maybe even anybody who has so much as spent the night there. This leads me to believe that maybe Zylks isn't a real thing...

Carmel, LA. A tiny community in DeSoto parish a long time ago. Hasn't had anyone living there in about 50 years. No longer exists on a map.

that's because all of the young folk moved to the big city of Pelican, where all of the jobs and night life was at
