In a week that has featured the worst winter weather conditions seen locally in decades (if not on record), with heavy snow and ice, one of the worst aspects of the last week has been the extreme cold. Here is a depiction of the longevity of sub-freezing temperatures seen.

Austin broke the record for longest time spent at or below freezing.

In 1890, that was the smart group. Imagine what the regular folk looked like

I have never heard this term until today.
Commercial buildings typically have two types of water, domestic and fire. Provided the building has a fire protection system, it has a dedicated fire line that supplies the sprinkler system exclusively.
Domestic water lines supply potable water for drinking fountains, sinks, water closets, eyewash stations, etc.
In SELA, we are seeing a good bit of busted/ leaking backflow preventers to both domestic and fire mains to buildings since Wednesday. There is a flaw in one particular fitting located outside of a typical insulation kit that literally gushes water until it is replaced. This leaves the building with limited or non-existand flow to it's respective main line.
Unfortunately, this is going to be seen all across the state as well as all others effected by this storm once lines are thawed and service resumes.

We had a good melt today. The roads are pretty much fine. There’s still a ton of ice built up on the sides and on the grass. Tomorrow morning might be dicey after it gets to 15 tonight.

They don’t get paid $15/hr for nothing.

It's not exactly apples to apples. In places like that they're prepared and have plows, can treat the roads, have heated sidewalks, vehicles equipped and prepared for winter weather, etc.
I saw a utility truck with snow chains on it in natchitoches today. I never thought I’d see that in Louisiana.

Monroe may be a few more days. Alexandria we got some back to work today. Everyone is working tomorrow between Alexandria and natchitoches. All hands on deck

Had a lot of good melting today and the roads are usable now. However still without power in FH. Cleco claimed this morning that everyone would be back up today in Rapides parish, which I thought was optimistic at best. Hopefully tomorrow we get power back.

Those piles or rows of ice/snow that wind up on the side of the roads for a few days before they melt are some of the nastiest shite you'll see. You wonder how something as beautiful as freshly fallen snow can wind up looking like that.
