Just put my 17+ year old black lab down on Monday & I'm really missing him & having a dog around the place. I've had catahoulas & blue heelers before & would like to get another one, anyone know any good rescue places for these type dogs. I'm going the rescue route because I figure I should give a dog a second chance. TIA

I've got a blue healer border collie mix. About 8 months old. You can have him for 1 cold beer.

Hope you're ready to get bit.

Both of those breeds, especially from a shitty upbringing, are going to bite somebody.

This is a great resource if you're looking to adopt a specific breed. In Louisiana, there's also probably a Catahoula specific rescue organization.

I love herding breeds. But I know I can't give them the exercise they need daily. But if I had land or was training for a marathon, they'd be great.

Dog People of Livingston Parish has a link to adopt a pet .com on their website
They have a couple up for adoption right now, don't think they are puppies
You can contact them if you want to be notified when (not if) they rescue puppies

FOTA

This group pulls dogs from kill shelters and puts them in foster homes so they can be adopted out. They even pay for heartworm treatment if the dog has them. Great group of people.

I don't know of any specific rescue orgs for these types of dogs, sorry. I can tell you that Blue Heeler can be quite a hoot! We had one from puppy stage to age 18. As a puppy she ate a couch, a love seat, tore large swaths of linoleum off the floor, ate socks, stole things and hid them under a tree and so much more. Oh, while we were asleep she would find all the loose pillows and shoes and herd them in to a pile in the middle of the living room. All in all she was a wonderful dog. I miss her, our AnnaBelle Lee.

Rescued a heeler/lab mix from the Vermilion shelter. Would be the best decision ever if everything I own didn't have fur on it
