Anyone have any experience with the Igloo Icy Tunes series? Apart from making one yourself, are there any other companies that make these? I've done some searching and haven't found much.

What I found online was extremely over priced. Save 50% when building yourself

I may end up going that route, but was hoping to save myself the time and labor with a well-built model by someone else.

Have you built one yourself?

Those could be good. Thanks for posting. That's the kind of site a simple Google search probably wouldn't turn up.

I've built one but can't say I would do it again. Used the best parts I could find and wound up spending about $300. Sound is ok but not great. Probably due to poor resonance or baffling. An ice chest is not made of MDF board so i wasn't expecting it to be great but it should be better than it is. Also have always had problems with a rattling lid. Tried everything from foam gasket to rubber seals. Nothing works well or lasts.

If had to do again I would have gone smaller, used a 12volt tractor battery instead of a full sized car battery, and left out the car radio/CD player and instead gone with an iPhone mount.

Good luck.

Okay, that's good to know. I'm not confident I can build one of these any better than, say, the Igloo Icy Tunes series, so I'll probably just go with that.

Have you considered a portable battery powered speaker instead of an ice chest setup?

I haven't. Was really looking for the ice chest, but a poorly made one is not an option. May have to look for a portable speaker instead.

I built one myself but it doesn't hold ice. Ready for a version 2.0 that holds beer

A buddy I work with makes and sells them. Has a battery compartment on outside that holds amp and battery. Flush mount speakers. Entire ice chest still useable. Give me your email and I will send you his info.

My brother in law makes them. They are freaking awesome. It has the solar panels at the top so you don't have to worry about battery power in the day. You can flip a switch if it's night and run it off battery.

Since iPhones are so popular, he takes the docking stations and builds them in.

You don't need a cooler. I have this.

It sounds great, gets really loud and the rechargeable battery last all day.

Guy on craigslist and cajun swap shop were making them for football season last year. Had a bunch for sale. Do a search for each.
