Location fee for movie?

We have been approached by a local location scout to use our home to film a portion of a local low budget film(~$1mil)...and no its not porn. They want to use the inside and outside of our home for 3 days, where they would take over and put us up in a hotel for this time. I did some quick googling to determine what kind of fees we could expect and came up empty. They have not sent over a contract yet but I wanted to be sure we were getting a fair shake before we agreed and any amount.
Anybody in the local film industry with knowledge on location fees, what would be fair in asking for and any caveats to allowing this?

A big budget feature film would make it more than worth it, no so sure about something so low budget.

Fees vary. I wouldn't expect much. A couple grand.
Key for you is to make sure they are responsible to repair the damage. Pretty much inevitable that there will be some minor damage at least.

I do this kind of work frequently. You need to be careful with a low budget film.
You need to assume that they will do some damage to your property. You need to make sure that the fee will cover any damage - don't rely on contracts which say they will restore the property. Example: We loaned a 32 Buick to the "Great Debaters", which was not a small production. They drove the car extensively during filming. We had to do about $600 in mechanical work, but we received $1000 for use of the car (and they painted it so they could use it more than once). We didn't present a claim for the mechanical damage. We came out ahead, but given the work we did getting the car to NW Louisiana, it was a break even deal.
Collect your money while they are here if the principals are from out of state. Once they close the local accounting office, you have little chance of collecting.
Ask them to propose a fee. The fee depends on how they are going to use your house in the film. For example, you will get more for a horror movie where your house is the main house, as opposed to a side house.
You aren't going to make a big profit from this. It is fun to see your stuff in a movie.
I would give you my email but it has my name in it. Post yours and I can tell you more.

I forget what film it was, but a rather large production shot some scenes in the east over trailer park in Denham...they set up shop in 1 trailer for two weeks and the owner got 50k
I'd guesstimate maybe 1k if you're lucky

Call a local ad agency or production company, speak with a broadcast producer. They might be able to give you some estimate.

That sounds really high. Did the owner tell you that? I've found property owners often misrepresent what they received.

They filmed an episode of Memphis Beat at my next door neighbor's house a few years ago. They paid them a bit over $5000 for a few days use. They paid me $600 for the use of my yard and driveway for cameras, gear, and a 10x10 snack tent.

No, my buddy did extensive security for them during his off time with the Sheriffs department. They displaced the family completely and did the bulk of their shooting in and around their trailer...of course they could have been bullshitting but it seems like he heard that figure from multiple sources

In all of my dealings with him, he was very serious but was never a prick.
You raised a good point - if you value your relationship with your neighbors, you need to let them know (assuming they aren't going to contract with the production company).
