Why should tax payers be on the hook for this? Let private tuition and donations take care of things. It looks bad if we're spending money on athletics, but can't pay professors.

This will quickly turn into a "which Louisiana public schools should close" thread.

Agreed. We're in the middle of one of the worst economic spots we've ever seen, and worried about some asshat making 4mil/yr.

I'd rather cut the number of schools themselves. If I remember correctly, we have almost as many or more state schools than Florida with 1/4 the population.

No doubt, they should start with the worst graduation rates and work up. The politicians are too chicken shite to do it though. First to be closed is the political patronage warehouse....suno.

honestly we should just get rid of public schools in general in louisiana. They're all just expensive taxpayer funded daycares. successful louisianians all went to private school anyway

I don't hate jindal like some do on this board, but truly believe if he wasn't interested in the bs presidency run that he would have taken the axe to some of these waste of money schools.

Or how about we cut funding to those professors who espouse anything besides what they were hired to teach.

While we are cutting funding, let's cut all funding to Women's Studies,African Studies and all the other horse shite "degrees" that produce nothing but simpering cowards, militants and communists of every stripe, and food service workers...sorry,that was redundant.

You will run into some serious Title IX issues because all of the Women's sports (and most of the men's sports would not be able to come close to funding themselves).

I was a bit shocked at the Ticket Revenue vs Head Coach salary at LSU:

Football - $31,841,481
Baseball - $2,656,867
Men's basketball - $1,602,840
Women's basketball - $238,175
Softball - $110,850
Women's gymnastics - $83,410
Women's track and field - $21,804
Men's track and field - $21,803

Now take a look at just Head Coach Cost per sport:

Les Miles - football - $4,065,508
Johnny Jones - basketball - $1,336,516
Paul Mainieri - baseball - $1,035,801
Chuck Winstead - golf - $251,902
Jeff Brown - tennis - $176,850
Nikki Caldwell - basketball - $1,043,751
Fran Flory - volleyball, sand volleyball - $295,902
D-D Breaux - gymnastics - $290,830
Beth Torina - softball - $206,850
Karen Bahnsen - golf - $185,422
Brian Lee - soccer - $183,800
Julia Sell - tennis - $183,131
Dennis Shaver - track and field/XC - $350,863
Dave Geyer - swimming - $134,320
Doug Shaffer - diving - $134,320

ETA - This is total compensation. Salaries will be lower as these numbers apparently include university incentives as well.

anymore.

i love how these threads are here, like LSU built itself with no funding from the state for athletics.

its like a person getting a small grant for rural development using it to get started and once they are making money says, small grants shouldnt be allowed.

Ok, but did we struggle to keep our universities funded in the past?
