1) Blame the system, not the indiviudals. It's easy to be outside the situation and say "why are these people asking for a handout?". If a company pissed you off and then a lawyer shows up on your doorstep and tells you that he could win you $135,000; would you say no to that? I doubt most would when it came down to it.
2) Like others have said, hurt feelings shouldn't warrant lawsuits (again, blame the system, it needs changed). The business owners' are bigots. Aside from their bigotry, this was an even dumber move by them to deny service because of the lawsuit and bad PR that comes with it. But alas, as a private business they should have the right to deny service as they wish.
