Legal U.S. pot sales soared to $5.4 billion for 2015, up 17.4 percent from $4.6 billion in 2014, according to data released Monday by the ArcView Group, which tracks the cannabis markets.

The figures include medical and adult consumer sales. However, the annual gain was largely fueled by the explosive growth in consumer sales, as some states have approved adult recreational marijuana use. Adult use sales grew to $998 million from $351 million in 2014, according to the research. And voters in more states, including California, are likely to take up the issue in 2016.

On the flip side of taxes, the cannabis market can be lucrative for state coffers. Colorado collected $13.2 million in taxes and fees in August — the single highest month of tax revenues since adult use sales began in January 2014, according to the report, citing the Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division.

Just another update in the "How Stupid Is Louisiana" saga.

We will be the 49th or 50th state to legalize, unless it is done federally. The Prison Industrial Complex and Police Unions, and North Louisiana Lawmakers will never let it happen here.

Even if all of that was sold in La and taxed at 10% it still wouldn't be enough.

Good start though.

New Orleans would really thrive with a legal pot industry.

Put it well on its way to an american amsterdam with legal prostitution on the way too.

I like the way you think Sentrius. Would love to be able to stroll down Magazine St. and buy top quality bud as well as be able to sit at a little cafe and smoke.

National legalization would probably turn it into a trillion dollar/year industry

You probably consider yourself a fiscal conservative I'd venture to guess.

Well, if you were to increase the tourist population without decreasing the thug population, then probably.

Guess the statues weren't the issue after all.

All this would do is drive the demand back to the black market and keep the crime rates where they are.

Do you consider yourself a small gov't conservative that believes in personal freedom?
