Lawyers/police officers. Question for yall.

What's the deal with an "unattended vehicle" ticket? I've never heard of it and the lawyer I was with thought it was bs and urged me to fight it. The vehicle was parked and left running even though I was inside a business and was written a ticket for unattended vehicle. Supposedly the fumes were getting into a business next door and that business wanted to press charges so I was "lucky" to only get ticketed. Is this something that only gets written when the officer wants to be an arse?

Baton Rouge. And people who can afford to leave it running. Not me. I turn mine off. I told the story as though it was me to not use the cliche "my friend".

Once again you entitled fricktards take it out on the cops.
If the business made a complaint, an officer responded and there was a valid infraction going on, what do you expect the officer to do?

The question is "was there a valid infraction?". Or was the officer just being a dick? A business, or even myself could file a complaint, does that give the officer grounds to issue a citation? You call me a fricktard but where is the Louisiana law concerning "unattended motor vehicles"?? Does it state that only vehicles left running while unattended constitute as an "unattended motor vehicle"? If not, damn near every vehicle in damn near every parking lot or parking garage could technically be an unattended motor vehicle.

Yes, you can get a ticket for that.

So you're concerned that people would think it was you that left the car running?
You should put in a name change request for A_twink

No idea this was illegal. I always start my truck with remote start 20 minutes before I have to get in it during the summer

On your property and locked is different.
I've never written the ticket, but I have been tempted to move the vehicle and then just wait and watch.
People that bitch about this are like the people that claim their vehicle was broken into when it was left parked outside at night unlocked.

How long did you leave it running and unattended for fumes to enter a building and a cop to write a ticket?

Whoa Whoa Whoa! I've seen cop cars running UNATTENDED many times. What the frick? Is this another case of cops not having to abide by the same laws as the rest of us?
Sorry, not a cop basher but I'm tired of them not having to follow the same rules.

Get out of here with that. Dumbass logical thinking. You think you know but you don't know. It's all about officer safety.

Guess what they are?
Thanks for being honest here, Mr. Copbasher.

There was thread on this a couple months ago. Some guy pulled over near a car dealer on a Sunday to check out new cars. Cop wrote him a ticket for leaving his car running.
The law has a purpose, but it's often applied in a chickenshit way.
LA Rev Stat § 32:145
§145. Unattended motor vehicles
No person driving or in charge of any motor vehicle shall permit it to stand unattended without first stopping the motor, locking the ignition, removing the key, and effectively setting the brake thereon, and, when standing upon any grade, turning the front wheels to the curb or side of the highway.
