Apart from all the bs in this thread, like other posters said, put your insurance company on notice and they will hire an attorney to rep you under the terms of the policy most likely.

Exact same thing happened to me in NOLA almost 25 years ago.
No damage to POS work truck - I was served a year to the day after it happened (thought it was a prank). Was in a company car - company insurance settled for $98K rather than go to trial in NOLA, company didn't think twice given what NOLA juries do to big companies in court. It's been like this for a long time here..

You forgot to tell us how insignificant the injuries were.

Was a police report filed? Information exchanged? How did they get your wife’s information? Seems odd to exchange information for something like that.

No more $10mil suits for ampertatin' the wrong foot.
Those don’t exist. At least not in LA. Med mal is capped at $500K IIRC. Which sucks b/c if some asshat MD chops off the wrong foot (and you later have the correct foot lopped off), you’re pretty much screwed for life. How in the hell does $500k sufficiently compensate a 20 year old who can never walk again?

So you've had 22 years to think about it. Have you come up with a satisfactory dollar amount?

Three years ago. Still costs a crap load defending frivolous lawsuits.

A kind poster here alerted me to the Federal Judicial Center. I have read their materials. I can serve as your attorney now.

prohibit plaintiff attorneys from paying chiros and hack docs to treat the "victims" and that will reduce a LOT of frivolous claims.

I think most people don't understand how much of a racket this is. It's kinda outrageous that courts allow it.

Report it immediately to your insurance company. If you have been served, you are on the clock to respond and risk a default judgment. Minor impact no prop damage suits are Louisiana's #1 industry. Someone has to pay for all those billboards.

Just remember that all the PI attorneys around here think there is no such thing as a frivolous lawsuit so just keep that in mind!

Today we get served papers notifying us that were being sued. They used words like catastrophic crash, violent crash, etc... What do I need to do next and advice would be helpful.

Contact your insurance company, the end.
