IPhone owners from several states sued Apple Inc. for not disclosing sooner that it issued software updates deliberately slowing older-model phones so aging batteries lasted longer, saying Apple's silence led them to wrongly conclude that their only option was to buy newer, pricier iPhones.

quote:

The company had deployed software to slow some phones. Apple said it was intended as a fix to deal with degraded lithium-ion batteries that could otherwise suddenly die.

The lawsuit seeks class-action status to represent thousands of iPhone owners nationwide.

Please make it to class action.

Apple admitted to automatically slowing down phones based on battery performance. Whether their is a case for economic loss is another story altogether.

You're free to skip the class action and sue them yourself for that $600 phone you bought because they misled you.

let's be honest. how many people are going to walk around with 2 year old phones? Do you think your computer from 10 years ago can run new operating systems?

Is this the same thing?

And I spend more on my phone than on my computer so which one should last longer?

My wife's 6s+ is running like a pig lately. So I get what apple is doing.. They know the women (the only adults using iPhones) will whine until they get a new one because it's suddenly "slow".

Dutifully the husbands will shell out another 800 for a made up issue.

a phone now is essentially a computer now so, yes, I think it is a fair comparison. Technology has essentially stopped evolving in the computer market and has continued evolving in the mobile sector. Phones with evolving battery techs and processor techs are hard pressed to keep up with evolving features in an OS.

Phones, now that they are a pocket computer, have a shelf life to them. The are what is now becoming obsolete as fast as you can buy them like computers were 10 years ago. The problem with this is that you can't upgrade a phone on the fly like you could a desktop.

I had a 6s and just went to an X because mine turned into a pile of garbage. My battery life didn't take a dump but I had memory dumps and it would crash apps when I was opening them. The best thing for Apple to do would be to make it easier to restore to a previous iOS or stop pushing the fricking updates every time I try to open the phone to make a call. It got to where I would get a notification to update to 11 every day and that got so damned annoying that I bit. I knew better but i bit.

The flip side to it is that an iOS is only as good as it's support from developers. Developers want the newest and shiniest so features are pushed.

Let me know when non-Apple users start complaining about the same issues

lmao if you really believe this you are brainwashed. phones from 2 years ago should not be slow for what they do. neither should computers from 5 years ago if u dont install a shitton of adware
