The news reported about the pumps on the lake not running..
The corps said it had no affect on city drainage...
Can someone explain that to me...?
All of the outlying pumps in East Jefferson along the lake are all about the Parish's drainage... Can't figure that one out...

Fun Fact: She also looks and sounds like a duck.

I the gates to the Lake at the outfall canals were open, why would they need pumps?

We had 10 inches of rain in less than 5 hours and your pumping system can handle 1inch the first hour and half an inch every hour after that. Also, your administration has refused to clean and update the catch basins around the city. The complete incompetence of you as mayor directly lead to this event. There you go. Flood action analysis complete. frick you. Hey guys, we had some flooding, I need to do a press conference, ideas? I have one: get a bunch of black people and the sloth from Ice Age and we'll go stand in front of Willie May's. Now, you want to look like you've been working hard and helping the neighborhood, so I thought we go with a spotless and pressed long sleeve black shirt at noon in 102 degree humid weather. Make sure to loop your thumbs through your belt loops of your dressy dark jeans like the fricking idiot you are. Ready...... Break!
God Bless you sir

The lake is at sea level...
I've leave the rest as an exercise for the reader.

dont think it works that way but im no engineer..

so should they have closed the gates and started pumping the canals?? I dont think they even had enough time to know it was going to rain that much in the short period of time.

Seven out of 121 pumps were not working PLUS they dropped this tidbit for us today:
"The temporary pumping stations at the ends of the 17th Street, London Avenue and Orleans Avenue canals only operate when the floodgates blocking water from Lake Pontchartrain are closed, and thus are not operated during a rainfall event. The three permanent pumping stations under construction at the ends of those canals are not yet complete, but will operate in the same way."

Unless the lake is as high as the water levels in the canals (which would not happen unless we had a tropical system) the canals will flow into the lake.
No topage of canals either.

Joseph Becker S&WB Superintendent says 7 of the city's pumps were out of service during Saturday's flood WWL-TV by Katie Moore.
It is unclear where the pumps that were not working are located.
Interesting to note that Landrieu did not mention where the at least 7 pumps that weren't working were located.

Helena just lost my vote by showing up for this idiotic event. I'll let another corrupt idiot take her place instead.
She's still a state representative so I see no problem with her there. JP Morrell and Karen Carter Peterson are also there. Also Cedric Grant is also in some other pics. A lot of public officials are not happy about this.

Why did Circle Food Store flood so easily yesterday?
Was it the pumps? no. SWB? no.
It was because your mayor and city council keep hiring contractors to do things that prevent the system from working. I took these two photos this morning outside of Circle Foods.
Notice there is now asphalt covering all but the top 2 1/2" of the catch basin's 18" tall opening. That means they've reduced the max water flow to 15% of its design capacity.
You can have the strongest pumps on earth and it won't matter if you do things that block 85% of water from getting to them!
