I used to hit balls with coach lamb. He was kind of a weird dude. New Orleans East was a great spot. I grew up in the Tilly but would head over the bridge by the bunny bread factory. Did anyone of yall go to baseball camp at Lake Castle?

Arse and I played on Haynes and Crowder. Hitting clinics were followed up with turf and grass duty. The good old days.

I went to lake castle in Slidell through 8th grade but played ball for the school in NO East from 6-8 grade. Lamb was the bomb but Coach Fred was my guy. I played for Fred in the fall on his showcase team in high school. Derf ball every practice. I did diamond club with lamb on the weekends after he moved to the school in Madisonville.

I went to Lake Castle Slidell through 8th grade, and played in NO East for Fred for the school team and Fall showcase team. Had a lot of fun playing with the short porch in right field. Also did diamond club with Lamb in Madisonville. He was a lunatic. A lot of great ball players played on those Lake Castle teams.

Yeah, Mike Fontenot played with me on Fred’s team.

We had dudes on my lake castle team that played for LSU and a few other colleges and Jucos.

Before the breakup Butera, Lamb and Freddy were a Holy Triumverate of Youth Baseball Coaching. Perfectly complementary to each other. Barry the Jesuit grad with the sweet swing, the Ted Williams tutelage and the guy who helped build Will Clark's swing. Energetic, organized, and the "respectable" face of the franchise always in Tulane Baseball pants. Lamb the young guy who never stopped moving, funny as shite, worked his nuts off, could pull you out of a slump in a 45 minute session off a tee in the middle of the week in the deepest corner of Wentwood playground you could find. Freddie, Old reliable. Never excited, looked like he just had 3 Bud Heavys for breakfast on the way in. Knob to the ball, barrel above the ball, 3 part swing specialist.

I don’t know many people that work more than Lambert (as of a few years ago). Work all day and night, 7 days a week.

Fun to shoot the shite with

All three really were excellent coaches. I swear, no one teaches baseball these days like they did. No one. I can’t get any of the hitting coaches around here to break a swing down and build it back up like Lamb used to do. And the 2 part swing was money when things weren’t going quite right at the plate.

We were pretty good in 6-8 grades but we played some teams we battled with. Richwood being one. John Curtis’ 8th grade team was loaded with hold backs. They were massive and could mash the ball. Christian Brothers had a good team in 6-7.
