Oh lawd, a white teacher read the n-word out of a book!
quote:

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — A Lafayette Parish School System mother claims a teacher read a racial slur from a book during class. Chantelle Aaron of Lafayette says she spoke to the school district about the incident. Aaron plans to submit a request to the school board to make such readings a violation.
quote:

“The particular passage had the ‘n-word’ in it three times. My daughter at the time was the only black student in the class and felt personally hurt by it because she knew I contacted the teacher ahead of time to say what her personal relationship is with that word,” Aaron added.
How the frick do you have a personal relationship with a word?

I wonder if she has a problem with a black teacher reading the n-word?

So...ban the teacher or the book?

Democrats just aren't sure which one anymore.

What class is this? How old are the students? A senior lit class this is fine. A elementary class this is just a stupid passage to pick by the teacher and although shouldn't be a big deal the teacher is an idiot.

Pull the kid and send her to a private school.

The school board will cave, and they shouldn't. This is what we get when we continue to cave in, soft people who cant fathom hearing specific words regardless of context.

I bet this kid walked out of class and called their friends the same word or texted it throughout the day.

They don’t even see the problem with letting a word affect them like this.

That’s a good question.

What about punishment for black kids that use the word. Because I guarantee you that white kids get punished for it.

Look. I think the entire thing is ridiculous. How can you teach without being forced to delete things from historical viewpoints, whether they're triggering or not.

But really, at the same time... what did this woman expect to happen? If it's in the lesson plan and you know it's coming up - what do you think happens when you say it in a classroom with one black kid in it?

ETA: The teacher, when she knows this is coming up in the lesson plan:

"Well I know it but I don't think I should say it..."

But the black kids don’t put an “r” at the end. The white ones do. Stupid wypipo.

This is extortion. Guarantee that mom and kid probably hear that word a thousand times a day either from family, friends or a rap song

I kind of agree

That said, what she is really proposing "change" wise isn't that crazy either.

The book was ‘A Lesson Before Dying.’ I know nothing about the book. What grade would this be appropriate for?
