This is pretty cool. I need to step my collectable game up.

Kurt Cobain's black Fender Stratocaster is covered in scratches and chipped wood. The names of Cobain and his former band, Nirvana, are misspelled. And the guitar itself, which was once smashed and put back together, is no longer playable.

But on Saturday, the broken guitar was sold at Julien's Auctions for a whopping $596,000 — nearly 10 times more than the opening price — showing that the adoration for the rock icon is alive and well nearly 30 years after he died.

I'm sure you buy frivolous shite. Why don't you give that money to the homeless instead?

CSB incoming…about 6 years ago i was watching an Ebay auction for an autographed Kurt Cobain cd cover and it was only at$100…but I forgot about it over the weekend and it sold for a little over that.

Even if fake, it would have been worth a shot at only $100.

I think the one he played in “smells like teen spirit” went in the millions.

Way more important music collectibles with more historic provenance didn't fetch this much at auction. To me this just further reinforces the fact that art and collectibles and this sort of thing are all just fancy forms of money laundering.

Fair from a musical standpoint, but they defined and arguably started a completely new genre of music that dominated a whole decade.

The originators (or presumed originators) will always be enshrined in history for that. I was way more into Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, etc, and think they're more talented musicians, but I don't deny what Nirvana did to change music.
