WTF is wrong with these people? Woman I know has a son who is all broken up because his HS girlfriend will soon head off to college at Alabama and he is staying home. She said "they'll just have to figure out how to manage a long distance relationship."

NO.

Even back in the 80's, people who had the BF/GF back home and thus didn't date were lame. And those relationships rarely last because people get to college and realize it's like an all you can eat buffet of the opposite sex.

Why are people so stupid.

Let me ask you a question: Are long term relationships societal wide more stable now with lots of college grads than when folks simply married their hometown sweethearts?

Have marriage rates improved or got worse with college attendance?

I can only speak from experience, but if you lived on or below I10, and your girl was at NLU/ULM as a long distance girlfriend.....she was cheating on you.

The sooner the boy realizes and accepts that she's about to be poked by a few more weiners so he may as well try to poke some more with his weiner, the better he will be.

It was hard enough to maintain back in the day when boys were literally being sent overseas to die and there were severe social consequences.

Nowadays with social media and mores like the are?

Not a chance it works.

Better than bringing a gf with you to school

"bringing sand to the beach" etc.

18 year olds are children with brains that aren't fully developed and rife with hormones that don't drive rational decision making one might find in 50 year olds?

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those girls just told you they had boyfriends back home because they thought you were weird and didn’t want to date you.

I am not interested in the long term sociological implications. I just miss college.

The worst mistake I ever made was dating my high school girlfriend the first year and a half of college and driving home every other weekend.

When I joined the Air Force, I was in a serious relationship with a girl "back home". Our phone conversations were dull and she never wrote to me. I wrote to her a lot. I figured instead of moping around and being all butt hurt, I should probably enjoy my time. She obviously didn't care about me, so why should I care about her? I learned that at 18 and my outlook on life towards women was so much better after that.
