Looks like the trooper got run over on a traffic stop. Haven't seen anything about it on the news yet.

ETA: LSP Facebook says the trooper was assisting a disabled motorist.

Officials said a trooper was hit while assisting the driver of a vehicle that had broken down. They added as the trooper was walking along the shoulder, her unit was rear-ended. Investigators said the impact caused the trooper's unit to spin and hit her. They added she was flown to the hospital by helicopter with moderate injuries.

That's why I think they should pass a law that if pulled over you shouldn't pull over on the side of the road. You should pull off at the next exit of on interstate and parking lot if on a main road. It's safer for all
Parties involved. I've seen on the interstate where people will just whip over in the left lane because "it's the law" to pull over for police.

Apparently the trooper was helping a motorist that broke down.

At least up here there are help trucks employed by the state that help stranded motorist. They have all sorts of equipment to help on cars, and they don't cost anything to the motorist- just the taxpayer. It seems like the motorist- usually doesn't wait very long either.

Helps keep LEO out of a little danger at least.

If a vehicle is "disabled" then it probably couldn't make it to an exit.

They have that on I-12 between BR and Denham Springs/Walker. I see the trucks all the time. I've never seen one on I-55 though... probably because that stretch of I-12 has tons more traffic than I-55.

We have that down here as well, it's a great service "sponsored" by State Farm (and I am sure tax dollars.) Motorist Assistance Patrol

Man I can't tell you how many times I've seen an officer just casually standing almost in the interstate while making a traffic stop.

One of the most frightening moments of my life was when I was driving a box truck back from Atlanta for work and I ran out of gas* on i20, and had to get someone to meet me. The gas tank was on the left side and the embankment on the right side of the road was steep so I had only so much room to pull off. Putting gas in the truck while cars and trucks were speeding by was absolutely terrifying. Most people do not bother to change lanes.

*dumb I know, but the exit that I stopped at to get gas had no gas station even though the interstate sign claimed that it did, and then there was a no man's land between that exit and the next exit that had gas.

It's a long bridge with very few exits, and what happens if your car can't move any more?

I see them all the time too. I was wondering yesterday if they did this for free or if they charged?

I think people should just pay fricking attention while they are driving but hey. Who am I to suggest such a thing.
