I have to report to the courthouse for jury duty in an hour. What should I expect?

Expect a lot of boredom. You sit and wait, you watch some videos, then you wait, then people have a chance to be deferred if they can make up a good enough excuse, then you wait some more until they start calling up names. In some instances, cases can be cancelled or rescheduled, so they end up letting a lot of people go home.

I reported to jury duty a couple of months and sat there until after lunch. I was one of the lucky who they let go.

I'm bringing my Kindle.
Any shot this is a one day thing or will I be doing this all week?

I had my class schedule and work schedule on official documents and was the first to get up when the Judge asked if anyone has conflicts

Was estimated to be a 1 week or more thing

There's absolutely no way to know

Good luck

You could always pay someone at the courthouse to tell you the defendants name. When he walks in..act all surprised.."HEY JERRY!! What are you doing in here?!?"

If they find out you post here, you'll be on trial instead of the actual perp

I remember seeing a poster a while back post about how a judge asked him where he gets his news and he said TD. The judge laughed

They may or may not let you bring a tablet. Maybe bring a briefcase or something to carry it in

I haven't been called since I was on a jury for a guy who was charged with kidnapping, rape, and attempted murder of a girl living in the apartments beside the I-12 Drusilla overpass. She was from Gonzales. There was also a kidnapping, and attempted rape of her room mate but the state only went after the rape charge of the first woman since the sentence was life. Had they failed there were the other charges that they would have gone after. Jury selection took a full week, and the trial lasted 2 more weeks. There were 100 people in the jury pool, and I wasn't selected until the last day of jury selection.

The odds of getting picked a VERY SLIM. But, I was one of the very slim ones a couple of years ago. What a waste of a week (and I wound up being the alternate, so I didn't even get to participate in deliberation)

Odds are, you'll be done by Wednesday at the latest though.
