My uncle would always refer to them as sky rockets and one time he lit one and reared his arm back to throw it, it took off behind him and hit me right in the nuts.

We also had wars with them but we used shoot them out of PVC pipes with duct tape on one end.

I know. So many times we lucky not to have a serious injury.

My dad was an electrician and always had conduit around. We tried our best with pipe benders to fashion a "rifle" or something that allowed us to point and shoot.

Man,we had all out wars with them. Can't believe none of us ever got an eye put out,or anything serious.

There's a reason they are banned in some states.

It's happening because our governor proclaimed June LGBT month in Louisiana. Yay for us.

Looking back now, although it was really dangerous, it was fun times. We used to also have wars with roman candles and make sparkler bombs. I also remember slipping 50 count black cats through mail slots in the middle of the night. We were so bad

I can't recall if we had black cats when I was a kid in the '70s but we definitely bought these:

One of them went off in my hand (index finger and thumb) when I tried to toss it. It lit so fast, I had no time to get rid of it. Throbbing pain was the only damage, luckily.

Definitely had Black Cats in the 70s,and it seemed like they were the best to us.

Really none of the regular firecackers or bottle rockets were very powerful, but the speed of the bottle rockets could hurt you if they hit you directly in the eye. Harmless other than that.

My cousins lived close to the MS state line and they used to buy these things by the gross. Those bottle rocket wars were the best

Ah, ok. I wondered if they were available back then. I never noticed and only had a small local fireworks stand in our small town.

I lived near a large ditch in Broadmoor so my friends and I would take different sides of the ditch and have siege wars with moon rockets. When we ran out of rockets we threw rocks

When we were done, we'd go to frost top for burgers and root beer. Good times.

My dad let a guy set up a fireworks stand at his store on holidays for years. I got all kinds of free fireworks.

Damn, I would have loved to have gotten that much

Would have lined up rows of them and mounted a full on assault against my friends.
