John retired in 1999.

Coincidence? I think not.

"And now a final thought... Definition of a corpse: Somebody who is dead.

This is John Mahaffey saying, good night."

Surprised he survived this long after Southdowns closed.

The old style newscasters were much better.

John was the first celebrity I ever met in real life. He was at the Happy Note almost every afternoon.

You forgot about Merle Haggard. Prince was the last of that 3. This begins a new cycle

Never in a million years would I have thought we'd be adding Prince to the list of musicians Richards has outlived.

True story. In college a GF and I used to like to drink at the Patio on Jefferson Hwy. We would hang out in that dump pretty late.

So one night around 11:15 PM John rolls in. He has on a sportcoat, button down oxford shirt and tie, shorts and flip flops. He had just finished the news and evidently only needed to be properly dressed from the chest up.

Sorry to hear about John's passing.

I saw him in a store a little over a year ago and I took the opportunity to tell him how I appreciated how he handled the Mike Miley situation when he was anchoring at WAFB.

He seemed to appreciate that someone remembered even though it cost him his job there.
