subtle brag about making an extra 30k a year. Nice. However, on the OT, you need to use 6 figures or more to impress. sorry.

This raise might bump him to near-OT levels, but he's still not 6'3" like the rest of us

This seems to be a question that only you can answer. Try to be the bigger person and be happy with your success.

Be a professional, and don't get stuck in the petty bullshite.

About 6 years ago I was going through a rough spot an was bascially demoted from my job title, I deserved it. Since that time I have gotten back on track got a specialist degree an turned things around. Well the guy that was brough in to replace me, made my life hell at work for 4 years before I transferred to another department. Was offered a new job this morning, about a 30k raise an will be that dick heads direct supervisor. Do you think it is possible for me to not hold a grudge an not be a complete dick to the guy? absolutely. i got a job (as an outsider) over two internal guys who applied and was their boss for 3 years and when i left it was on good terms. they hated me for the first year, but I overlooked their pettiness and earned their respect by being a good boss.

be a bigger man.

Been a normal dick. Aka, typical middle management type.

You just got a raise, and a promotion, and the first thing that comes to mind is being a douche.

I'm guessing that you will be less of a tool to him than he was to you and assuming he rightly deserves some scrutiny.

I don't know enough about you to think one way or the other. But I work with, for and alongside people I hold grudges against every day. Being a professional is all about laying aside your personal feelings and getting the job you're being paid to get done, done.

There's a time and place for all of that. If the dude sucks, then he'll be in your crosshairs, but don't take revenge. If he screws up at work, then its on him, not you. It isn't personal, its business. Who wants to be a guy who held a grudge for 6 years and plotted payback? What kind of life would you think a person that does that leads?

I'd say a pretty d@mn sh!teous one, myself.

Don't be that guy.

Think about it this way:
would you rather have 30k and a dickbag or no 30k and no dick bag

Also, if you had an Ivy League degree, you wouldn't be in this mess because you would be the dick bag supervisor.
